SAUDI ARABIA: Stadler has awarded Rolls-Royce a contract to provide 50 MTU Collection 4000 diesel engines to be used on 200 km/h inter-city trainsets it’s to construct for Saudi Arabia Railways’ Dammam – Riyadh route.

In 2024 SAR awarded Stadler contracts value SFr600m to provide and preserve 10 trainsets to be used on the East line, with choices for 10 extra. The trainsets will likely be 175 m lengthy with a capability of about 320 passengers. Every set can have two diesel-electric energy vehicles, with every energy automotive having two 12V 4000 R64 MTU engines with an output of 1 500 kW and assembly European Stage V emission requirements. The remaining 10 engines are for reserve energy vehicles and for swapping throughout upkeep.
