UAE’s Etihad Rail has debuted the area’s first-ever “CO2 Emission Avoidance and Discount Certificates,” an revolutionary initiative that highlights the environmental advantages of rail transport for its prospects.

The certificates – powered by EcoTransIT, a globally recognised software for assessing the environmental impression of transport – quantify and validate the carbon financial savings companies obtain by selecting rail over different transport modes, straight contributing to the UAE’s decarbonisation targets.

The developer and operator of the UAE’s railway community stated the certificates calculate CO2 Equivalents (CO2e) by factoring in direct emissions from diesel and oblique emissions from biofuels.

The method contains Effectively-to-Wheel (WTW) evaluation, which covers the total lifecycle of gas use – from extraction to combustion – making certain an correct measurement of the environmental impression of every tonne-km transported.

Etihad Rail plans to move 60 million tonnes of cargo yearly by 2030, contributing to the UAE’s financial diversification, enhancing provide chain resilience, and contributing to its local weather targets.

The agency’s operations are projected to cut back CO2 emissions from the UAE’s street transport sector by 21 per cent yearly by 2050, taking as much as 300 vehicles off the roads for each practice journey.

Final September, Etihad Rail Freight, a unit of Etihad Rail, signed a haulage companies cope with Trojan Normal Contracting to offer seamless, end-to-end transportation and logistics options.

Etihad Rail will transport aggregates from Trojan’s quarries in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah to the Industrial Metropolis of Abu Dhabi and Dubai Industrial Metropolis.
