Jordan and UAE to co-operate on Aqaba railway project | News

JORDAN: Authorities and railway officers from the United Arab Emirates have signed 4 agreements to assist Jordan with a US$2·3bn mission to construct a 360 km railway linking potassium and phosphate manufacturing services to the port of Aqaba.

The road would run from Aqaba’s phosphate export port and the separate industrial port to Wadi Al-Yatam. It might then cut up, with one department serving Jordan Phosphate Mines Co’s website within the Al-Shidiya area 125 km to the northeast of Aqaba and the opposite department operating through Wadi Araba to Arab Potash Co’s websites at Ghor es-Safi 180 km to the north of the port.

On September 4 the 2 ministries of funding of Jordan and the UAE signed an memorandum to ascertain a framework for co-operation within the railway sector together with the change of data, abilities and technical experience. This would come with the manufacturing and provide of trains designed to worldwide requirements.

The UAE’s nationwide railway Etihad Rail signed an settlement with Jordan’s Ministry of Transport and two MoUs with the Jordan Phosphate Mines Co and the Arab Potash Co masking the design, development and operation of the railway.

Research are to be accomplished by the tip of 2025, enabling development works to be tendered in 2026 with a view to trains operating from 2030.

On completion Jordan would be capable to export 3 million tones of potash merchandise and 13 million tons of phosphate per 12 months. Plans to ascertain a dry port in Ma’an is also revived.
